Just six per cent of LinkedIn users log on daily
June 16, 2011
Only six per cent of LinkedIn users engage with the platform daily compared to more than half of those on Facebook, according to a new survey that looked at the impact of social networking sites on people’s lives.
The poll of 2,255 American adults by the Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project found that 42 per cent of the US adult population is using social networking sites, up from 26 per cent in 2008. The average age of adult users has also shifted, from 33 in 2008 to 38 in 2010.
Facebook, which has nearly 700 million users worldwide and nearly 160 million in the US, is easily the most popular of the sites surveyed, with 92 per cent of social networkers on it. This was followed by MySpace with 29 per cent, LinkedIn with18 per cent and Twitter at 13 per cent.
But only six per cent of LinkedIn users engaged with the platform daily compared to 52 per cent of those on Facebook and 33 per cent on Twitter.
The figures showed LinkedIn users were far more likely to go on the site every few weeks (28 per cent) or even less often (35 per cent). This is perhaps an indication that LinkedIn users could benefit from more training and guidance on how to get the most out of the site.
