Breaking News! (Well, for me at least!)
The long-awaited LinkedIn profile update has just rolled-out for me.
Here is the first profile, belonging to my highly respected LinkedIn connection, Andrew Collier, a portrait photographer, that I viewed with the new format.
It raises a few points of note about preparing your own profile to accommodate the new LinkedIn profile view update including:
Your profile picture and background image has never been more important.
Now more than ever, your LinkedIn headline really can be your personal strapline as it is more prominent – include keywords you would wish to be found for and make it clear how you can help someone.
Following the new LinkedIn profile view update, having a logo for your company is now brought into the spotlight. If you don’t one or have the wrong one(!), this is now much more exposed.
Your contact information is a direct link from this fresh new view. Have you checked yours recently? It still astonishes me how many people I am connected to who have incorrect contact details (#LinkedIn 101 !) on their profile.
It’s also important to nail the first three lines of your LinkedIn Profile Summary because, as you can see, it is the first few lines that people see in the snippet and therefore needs to grab their attention to entice them to hit the ‘show more’ button.
Here’s what my LinkedIn profile looks after the new LinkedIn Profile View Update:
I am sure more noteworthy points will start to emerge as we begin to understand this new look – I’ll keep you posted!
What do you think of the new profile update?
On the subject of the new profile update, one of my of valued connections on LinkedIn, Noleen Thompson (a fellow LinkedIn Trainer) recently commented:
“Loving the new profile look. Had it for about a week now. The challenge is, the banner needs to accommodate for the side picture as well as the middle as on mobile, your profile picture is still in the middle…”
Let me know your thoughts on new look and feel of LinkedIn profiles on Twitter and LinkedIn.
